Walking in Remembrance with NOPD District 4

On Thursday, September 24, I joined families, neighbors, and the NOPD Fourth District in Algiers for the Annual Homicide Remembrance Day Walk. We walked with love for the lives taken by violence and for the families who carry their memories every day.

The photos, shirts, and faces reminded me why showing up matters. After the walk, I had the honor of performing at the remembrance ceremony. I sang “WHO IS GOD?!” as we stood alongside families holding on to faith, one another, and the names of those they love.

A heartfelt thank you to Senior Police Officer Verna T. Jones and the NOPD Victim Witness Assistance Unit for bringing this walk together. Sarah Johnson, thank you for the care you give families through the Fourth District and for the kindness you showed me. To every family who shared a memory and every person who came to walk beside them: I see you, and I’m praying with you.
