DAY 2 OF JESUS WEEK | RIKERS ISLAND Part 1
I experienced something today that I’ll never forget.
This was my first time ever serving in prison ministry, and I can honestly say it won’t be my last.
We visited two different housing units at Rikers Island with one purpose: to share the love, hope, and freedom found in Jesus Christ.
I sang “Trust in God”—NOLA style—and they immediately started vibing. Then I sang “Who Is God?!” I looked into their eyes, and they weren’t just hearing the music…they were feeling every word.
The men were respectful. They were kind. They were engaged.
Most importantly, they were ready.
By the grace of God, 50 inmates gave their lives to Jesus Christ.
After the service, they were served pizza. Many shared it was the first time they’d had pizza in three years. Then they were given freeze pops. It was a simple act of kindness that meant so much.
One of the greatest blessings? Before we left, they were already talking about bringing me back for a concert. What an incredible honor. If God opens that door, I’ll gladly walk through it.
Today reminded me that ministry isn’t about a stage—it’s about people. It’s about meeting hearts wherever they are and reminding them that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love.
This was my first prison ministry experience, but I pray it’s the first of many.
To God alone be all the glory.
“I was in prison and you came to visit me.” — Matthew 25:36
