What a day at Satchmo SummerFest. 🎺❤️
It was an honor to join Troy Sawyer during his set alongside the incredible young ladies of Girls Play Trumpets Too. What a blessing to witness so much talent and excellence on one stage.
I had the opportunity to sing a song I wrote during COVID about staying strong and holding on. Although it was written for a different season, God knew someone in the audience still needed that message of hope today.
Behind the scenes, I met one of the young ladies from Girls Play Trumpets Too and learned that she had recently lost her mother to suicide. My heart immediately went out to her. I was able to love on her, encourage her, pray with her, and remind her that God is near to the brokenhearted. Moments like that remind me that ministry often happens away from the spotlight.
Then… the unexpected happened.
When I came back to my car, it was gone. 😩 I honestly thought it had been stolen! Turns out it had been towed because I was parked within 20 feet of a crosswalk. There were no yellow lines or signs where I parked, another car had just pulled out of that spot, and several cars were parked behind me, so I truly believed I was parked legally.
Well… $300 later, I’m back in my vehicle. Definitely not how I expected to end the day, but I’m choosing to trust God anyway.
As I was leaving the impound lot, I passed out my WHO IS GOD?! promo cards to the security team. That’s when one of the ladies said she recognized me. In that moment, I was so grateful I hadn’t given in to the temptation to be upset or angry. I could’ve let my frustration get the best of me, but God reminded me that we’re called to represent Him everywhere we go.
That moment reminded me why we stay ready, why we stay kind, and why we make sure we’re shining God’s light. Not just on the stage—but in the parking lot, at the impound lot, and everywhere in between. We don’t answer frustration with attitude. We answer it with kindness, grace, and the love of Christ.
Today reminded me that ministry isn’t limited to a microphone or a platform. Sometimes the greatest opportunities to share Jesus come disguised as interruptions.
God is still good. He is still in control. And I’ll keep saying yes to Him.
